commissioning artworkThe finished pieceWhen the piece is finally completed and/or installed, it is a good idea to mark the occasion with a celebration of some kind, be it a solemn liturgy, prayers, a 'private view' or an open viewing day or evening. Welcome your newly commissioned artwork into your church and encourage all the congregation to feel that it is theirs. You could invite the maker to the opening, and to any subsequent events. Thanking the donors in a permanent way is also a good idea, through a donors book or scroll - this may be another commissioning opportunity for a calligrapher! Involve the wider community - invite people from outside the congregation to share your new artwork. If marking the occasion with a ceremony or party - why not invite the local press? |
