commissioning artworkaesthetic issuesAesthetic criteria are more difficult to define but might include: Media: wood, stone, metal, painting, multi-media, glass etc.. What kind of work would enhance your church or its precincts? Maker: Does the artist's work reflect and approach a sensibility which is sympathetic to Christianity and to places of prayer and worship? Has the artist already worked in a church? Have you seen samples of his/her work? Style: Does the piece need to match or contrast? Should a particular style be used to ensure visual conformity with other objects of the overall style of the church? The views of others including your DAC may be relevant here. Cultural context: Is your church listed or associated with a particular community/architect/worship style? Would the art work enhance the cultural matrix of your church and community? Will the piece and the message it conveys be open and accessible to all? |
